NM MIC - Bring It Back

19July2015

Here's my Jersey on helping to grow our diverse music industry.

WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?
The Music Industry Coalition: who wouldn't want to support an organization named like that?

::

YOU WANT THE SOLUTION OR WHAT?
It's simple, really. The title of this post says it all: Bring Back the MIC!

Bring back the NM Music Industry Coalition!

So what is the MIC? Well, I'm glad you asked. Sit right on down, and let me tell you a great story, all of it true.

Better yet, I'll just quote from the source itself:

"Beginning in 1987, recording industry professionals including songwriters, recording engineers, working musicians and producers set out to achieve cooperation among recording studios and other industry professionals in order to create a climate of professionalism and artistic excellence within the New Mexico music community.
The result was the New Mexico Music Industry Coalition (NM MIC)..."

Bring Back the MIC!

Now who would be against "professionalism" and "artistic excellence" in NM? There are a lot of great talent here in our great state. Why should they go out of state just to get noticed? What does Nashville have that we don't?  It just take a little community courage, that's all.

Bring Back the MIC!

The NM MIC Awards were held every year beginning with the 1987 Ceremony in 1988 (.pdf). Even though the MIC Awards no longer exists, the Awards show must go on. And the show did indeed go on, under a new name: The New Mexico Music Awards.

Bring Back the MIC!

They even have the Eric Larson Endowment, helping music-type majors who maintain a 3.0 or better at the University of New Mexico. Awesome!! This just keeps getting better and better.

Bring Back the MIC!

Now that's music to my ears. How 'bout youse guys (and former MIC members, too)?

(Full Disclosure: I was an original founder of the NM MIC from 1985 to 1992. You gotta problem with that?)
